About the Blue Nile Cafe

The Blue Nile Cafe was started in 1995 by Daniel and Selam Fikru. Over the past 25 years, the Fikrus have been instrumental in introducing Kansas Citians to Ethiopian cuisine. The restaurant has had several locations in Midtown and Overland Park and the current feature location in the historic City Market. Winner of multiple awards over the decades, in 2019 the Blue Nile Cafe was named the “Best Ethiopian” restaurant by 435 Magazine.

Is your famous lunch buffet available?

We’re sorry, it has been discontinued. Most of our buffet items are available at reduced prices for lunch.

How many gluten-free options are on your menu?

Most of our food is gluten-free. The exceptions are desserts, samosas, and our regular injera. Gluten-free injera is available upon request and includes a small charge.

Are you open to inside dining?

We are open to inside dining according to the latest KCMO regulations and advisories. Currently, we are open at full capacity inside and on our patio.

What is the best way to place an order for curbside or delivery?

Are you located near public transportation?

We are across the street from the City Market stop of the KC Streetcar. We are a few blocks from the Main MAX bus line.
